Lock Upp's Payal Rohatgi supports Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock at Oscars
In the news flash for the day, the Lock Upp contestants were informed about Will Smith-Chris Rock's Oscars controversy. As many know, Will slapped Chris on stage after he cracked a joke about 'King Richard' actor's wife Jada Pinkett's hair. Reacting to this, Payal Rohatgi extended her support to Will and criticised comedians who make fun of everything. While discussing about the incident, Payal and Munawar Faruqui got into an argument.
The news flash on Lock Upp read, "Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the face after the comedian joked about the actor's wife Jada Pinkett's Smith. 'Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2,' he said in an apparent reference to her shaved hairdo - a result of the hair loss condition alopecia."
Payal said, "Very very good, people cannot just make fun of anybody. She has a hair loss condition. Humour has a limit." She further added, "Ye comedians hote hain na, ye stand up comedians. Ye log humour aur sarcasm ke naam pe, Bhagwan ko attack karna, kisi ko bhi." Munawar then reacted, "Oscars me hinsa allowed hai." Payal replied, "It is not violence at Oscars if you slap someone. If someone made fun of your wife, you can slap them. Let us not even talk about religion being attacked." To this, munawar lost his calm and told her, "Payal do not do this." She said that it was him who started it all. He then said, "Payal apne pe mat lo, do not do this. You do not know." The actress then apologised to him.
For the uninitiated, the comedian has earlier been attacked for allegedly hurting Hindu religious sentiments with his jokes. His shows were also cancelled in the past due to such allegations. He later announced that he has decided to quit comedy.
On the other hand, following the shocking Oscar slap controversy, Will apologized for his behaviour. He released a statement on Instagram and stated that Chris Rock's joke about his wife Jada was too much for him to bear.
